More Info

The mahua tree is known as a Kalpavriksha, the wish-granting tree, because every part of it can be used. Its flowers are naturally sweet and have been part of local food and festivals across central and eastern India for generations. This box is our most complete way to try it: every mahua product we make, in full-size packs, with an original Sohrai painting.

What's inside:

  • Sun-dried Mahua Flowers (250g): Soft and chewy, with a creamy, raisin-like texture. Their flavour is earthy, it’s slightly sweet with a hint of bitterness, notes of apricots and figs. Eat them as a snack, mixed in your dried fruits, or cook with them.
  • Mahua Chocolates (250g): Roasted Mahua flowers coated in 55% dark chocolate. The perfect sweet treat for after dinner or with coffee. Voted as one of the best gifts to put in your Diwali Hamper by Conde Nast in 2025.
  • Mahua Syrup (250g): A natural sweetener, Mahua syrup has a caramel-like, warm and nutty flavour with earthy undertones. Drizzle it on pancakes or porridge, or stir it into chai, coffee or lemonade.
  • Mahua Granola (250g): The perfect breakfast cereal or mid-day snack, packed with grains, oats, seeds, and nuts, and sweetened with Mahua and honey.
  • 2 Mahua Energy Bars (50g each): Made with only eight clean ingredients. Use it as a pick me up at the office, the gym or a long drive.
  • An original Sohrai painting. Hand-painted by women artists in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, working to preserve the Sohrai artform. The artwork is painted using only natural pigments and supports the conservation of this art and the female artists who create them.

About The Painting:
Sohrai is a traditional art form painted on the walls of homes in Hazaribagh during the harvest season by female artists. The art depicts motifs from nature, especially animals and plants, using only natural pigments. The Sanskriti Museum is working to preserve this artform on paper as fewer people are painting on homes. We’ve collaborated with them and a group of artists to ensure each painting is made by hand and is one of a kind, so yours will be different from the one in the photos. Your purchase supports these artists and the conservation of Sohrai.

Why It Makes A Great Gift:

  • It’s memorable: Most people have never tried mahua, so it stands out from the usual mithai and dry fruit boxes. And the painting stays long after the treats are gone.
  • It has impact: Your gift supports the communities we work with to ethically harvest mahua and the artisans keeping Sohrai alive.
  • It’s timeless: It fits any occasion: Diwali, Christmas, birthdays, thank-yous, corporate gifting, or a treat for yourself.
